Vegan AR Activist Joaquin Phoenix takes time for “Be Fair, Be Vegan” Campaign in Toronto

Vegan activist and actor Joaquin Phoenix visiting the #beFairbeVegan subway take over at St George station at @TorontoPigSave.

Joaquin was visiting to receive an award at the Toronto Film Festival, for his current movie, Joker and was opening up about his deceased brother, River, a vegan and AR Activist and an ode to his fiancé Roony Mara at the Toronto International Film Festival.

He spoke eloquently and overwhelmed with emotion of River Phoenix at the IFF Tribute Actor Award, the “Joker” star credited his older sibling for his film career and revealed he was “indebted to him for that because acting has given me such an incredible life.”

“When I was 15 or 16 my brother River Phoenix came home from work and he had a VHS copy of a movie called ‘Raging Bull’ and he sat me down and made me watch it. And the next day he woke me up, and he made me watch it again. And he said, ‘You’re going to start acting again, this is what you’re going to do.'”

Phoenix went on to say “He didn’t ask me, he told me.”

At the TIFF gala, his younger brother paid tribute to other members of the family as well.

“I feel overwhelmed with emotion, because I’m just thinking about all the people that had such a profound influence on me,” Phoenix replied.

“When I was watching those clips, I thought about my family. My sisters Rain and Liberty and Summer, who are still my bests friends.”

As a long time Animal Rights Activists and vegan since 3 years-old, he was invited by Anita Krojnc of the Animal Rights group Toronto Pig Save.
At the St. George subway station in downtown Toronto is the large animal-rights mural campaign launched by nonprofit Be Fair Be Vegan.

Anita Krajnc met him at the Station and gave him the tour of the billboards.
“He’s so busy, the only window he had was 3 to 5 pm today and he has this big award, yet he took time out to come see Be Fair Be Vegan Toronto because it’s so close to his heart,” Krajnc said. He took time for photos with the billboards and activists as they thanked him for his work. People walking by were star-struck to see him.

Joaquin fights for animal rights by attending Animal Saves, to bear witness to animals heading into slaughter. He also narrated the thought-provoking and mind changing Earthlings. Also is the Executive Producer of What the Health And alongside, Rooney Mara attending the recent National Animal Rights March in Los Angeles.

Many thanks to Joaquin for not just his amazing acting feats, but for using his voice in the Animal Rights Movement. Many thanks to “Be Fair, Be Vegan,” for an incredible campaign and to Anita for organizing this.
